Hey everyone!

Check out the latest at the HotPixel Post Blog. I wrote a short piece about an awesome musical short film that HotPixel co-produced called String Theory!

EXCERPT:

You’ve heard about the Kickstarter, and you’ve been keeping tabs on the “Making Of.” Now, one of HotPixel’s labors of love is finally out in the world!

HotPixel teamed up with Paper Windows and Image Craft to bring you a singular short film written and directed by Jonathan Pezza! Starring Abraham Benrubi (E.R, U-Turn), Paulina Cerilla (NBC’s The Voice), and newcomer Thien Nguyen, String Theory is a musical short film that follows three singer-songwriters through a day in L.A. While each of them faces different circumstances and come from different life experiences, the one thing that connects them all is their relationship to music.

SONG OF THE DAY: “Friendship” – Judy Garland and Johnny Mercer

Song: “Friendship”

Performed by: Judy Garland and Johnny Mercer

Album: Released on 78 – Decca 3165 (1940)

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about partnerships, and what it means to work with your best friends. Naturally, this song has been in my head for a while because of it.

Today’s Song of the Day is “Friendship”, originally from the musical, Anything Goes, but performed here as a single by Judy Garland and Johnny Mercer, which is my favorite rendition. Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: “Reefer Madness” – Alan Cumming

Song: “Reefer Madness”

Performed by: Alan Cumming and Company

Album: Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical Soundtrack (2005)

So, now that Incredible Girl Season One has been written, I’ve been able to get back to the pilot I’ve been working on with my writing partner…and as I was working on it this morning, I realized that this song captures a bit of the spirit of what we’re writing.

Don’t ask. 🙂

Here’s the title song from Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, performed by the fabulous Alan Cumming. Enjoy! And if you ever get to see the movie (either the original from the 1930s or the 2005 remake), you really, really should!

SONG OF THE DAY: “See What I Wanna See” – Audra McDonald

Song: “See What I Wanna See”

Performed by: Audra McDonald

Album: Happy Songs (2002)

I’ve been catching up on Scandal on Netflix lately (why is that show SO GOOD?!) – I’m 3/4 of the way through S2 – and I love Audra McDonald, so her rendition of “Mistress of the Senator” has been popping in and out of my head as I watch.

Favorite line? I’ll play Jackie better than Jackie did and not use a hat. 🙂

However, this sad panda can’t find a video/embeddable version of that song! In fact, it’s really hard to find the studio recorded versions of a lot of Audra McDonald songs! BOO.

However, I DID find another one of my favorite Audra McDonald numbers, which has also been hard to find. Here she is performing Michael John LaChiusa’s “See What I Wanna See.” Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: “BRAND NEW DAY” – NEIL PATRICK HARRIS (from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog)

I feel good today! Yes, there’s big changes happening, but I’m able to prepare for them. There are people who love me. There are options. There’s hope.

What’s funny, though, is that my feeling good about upcoming changes isn’t all birdies and sunshine. There’s a lot of Fuck You in my determination to make the best of things. 🙂 I was trying to think of a song that would capture that, and every song I came up with was just too damn saccharine.

Until I thought of the perfect song.

Today’s Song of the Day is “Brand New Day” sung by Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible in Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Enjoy!

Now if you don’t mind, I’m gonna go get The Boy the keys to a shiny new Australia.

SONG OF THE DAY: “MOVING RIGHT ALONG” – from The Muppet Movie

Life just got very up-and-down (not the least of which because of the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones), but the thought that’s been living in my head most is that I can’t let these things set me back…because life will ALWAYS be up and down, and if I let each time stop me, I’ll never get anywhere.

So, I’m movin’ right along. 🙂

Today’s Song of the Day is “Moving Right Along,” as sung by Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear in The Muppet Movie. This movie came out the year I was born (the month before, in fact!), and I’m convinced that means something. 🙂 Enjoy!
