Teresa’s Tuesday Round-Up: 10/19/10

Posted on

What’s up, homies?! :) Told you this feature would be back. In fact, the reason why it hasn’t been here is because NYCC ate me alive, and I’ve been writing my face off. Here are the scribblings that made it to the web within the past week:

GEEK THEATER REVEW OF CIRCUS OF CIRCUS: OCT. 14! Head over to Pink Raygun for my review of a creative, intriguing theatrical adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

NYCC PANEL SPOTLIGHT: IMAGE COMICS WRITERS PANEL: OCT. 14! Check out my write-up of one of the most entertaining and informative writing panels I’ve ever been to at a con over at Tor.com!

BEST SHOTS RAPID-FIRE REVIEWS: OCT. 14! Check out my latest rapid-fire reviews at Newsarama. I review Knight & Squire #1 and Superior #1.

CAPRICA: S1.5, EP 10 – RETRIBUTION: OCT. 14! My Tor.com review of the most recent episode of Caprica! (And, you’ll be watching the new episode TONIGHT, right?) :)

So, October 14th was a really big day for Teresa Jusino, huh? :) Comic Con was over on the 10th, and I was banging out these articles all while I recovered from three consecutive late nights of daily con write-ups. BOO YA! I have to say, I was pretty proud of myself this past week. There is more NYCC coverage coming – in fact, my NYCC Panel Spotlight of the James Marsters panel hit today – as well as the review of tonight’s episode of Caprica.

That’s a lot of scribbling to keep up with! If you want to always be in the loop, go on and “Like” my Facebook Fan Page!

Also, don’f forget that my short story chapbook, ON THE GROUND FLOOR, is available for purchase! Click the link to the right, and get your copy today!

Lastly, keep your eyes peeled here. There will be big news and new endeavors announced soon!

Sporting my Jayne hat at NYCC 2010

Hello everyone!

As always happens after a convention, I was a bit shell-shocked after NYCC. Even during those moments at the con when I was sitting quietly in the food court having a cup of coffee, my brain wouldn’t stop spinning. There was so much visual stimulation going on, so many conversations floating past me that I couldn’t stop myself from listening to…it was a lot of fun, but SUPREMELY EXHAUSTING.

This is just my excuse for not having blogged substantively in a while. Sorry! :)

And then there’s the writing about NYCC, which I’m still doing. I did write-ups at Tor.com for all three days, and there are specific panels I wanted to write about individually, because I thought they were worthy of attention. My NYCC Panel Spotlight on the Image Comics Writers Panel is already up, and more spotlights will be up this week. And then there are the creator interviews I have planned, which should be going up next week.

And in this flurry of activity, I realized something…I’ve written a LOT. So often, I think I’m not doing enough, or not being productive enough. Then I turn around and look at what I have produced and think, “Holy crap! Look at all those purdy words.” It’s a nice feeling to realize that I’m not as much of a slacker as I thought. :) Though it’s hard to NOT feel like a slacker. Freelancing makes you lose track of what day it is, and the hours of your day run together in such a way as to make you lose your concept of time altogether. I’ve noticed that it’s become hard for me to judge how long it will take me to do something. Did I spend an hour writing that article? Or did I spend 4 hours working on it? Lately, I’ve been shocked whenever I check the time, because I never see the time I expect to see. Losing track of time makes it hard to judge how much you’ve accomplished, because you always feel like you’re spinning your wheels not doing anything. What I have to remember is that all that wheel-spinning IS productivity, and I should stop and enjoy what I have done every once in a while.

So, I haven’t done a Teresa’s Tuesday Round-Up since Sept. 28th. :) I hope to get back to that being a regular feature, but if you don’t want to miss a link to my geeky online scribblings, or any of my writing news, please “LIKE” MY FACEBOOK FAN PAGE! Yeah, I know. It sounds so douchey to say I have a “fan page,” but really it’s just a repository for all my links and stuff, so you can have them all in one place.

And there’s some big news! My horror short story, “December”, has been selected to be in the next issue of Crossed Genres! It’s Issue #24, the “Characters of Color” issue, and it will be available for purchase November 1st! It’s the first time I’ve sold a piece of my fiction, so I’m very excited about it. You might have already read “December” at this very blog, but now that it’s been edited for publication, I’ve taken the story down. So, the ONLY way to read the new-and-improved version it will be by snagging a copy of Crossed Genres next month!

There’s other big publishing news coming up. I’m going to be included in another collection next year, but I can’t tell you what it is yet. However, and this is mostly for the geeks out there, you will SQUEE when I tell you what it is. :) Will fill you in on this Seekrit Project as soon as I can. I’m very excited about this one, too.

So, this year marks the first time I’ve ever been paid for my online writing, AND it marks my first sales to edited anthologies/collections. Not bad for a slacker! :)

My NYCC Schedule – SATURDAY

I’m already running late for my first thing so that I can type this, but whaddaryagonnado? Here’s where I’ll be (ish) at the Javitz Center today:

10:45AM – The Science of Battlestar Galactica panel (1E02) Well, I’m going to try to make some of this…but I really should’ve left the house by now…I’ll probably catch the end.

2:30PM – Spotlight on the Women of Battlestar Galactica! (IGN Theater) It’s a very Battlestar kind of a day, apparently! Katee Sackoff, Tricia Helfer, Michelle Forbes, and Nicki Clyne definitely scheduled to be there. Not sure about anyone else…

4-5:00PM – stop at J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI signing. (Table 16)

then…

4:00PM – Marvel’s Cup o’ Joe. It’s always entertaining to watch Joe Quesada cut down fanboys. :)

5-7:00PM – NYCC Speed Dating! (1A20) *gulp* Should be…interesting? If you want to go on a 3-minute date with me, sign up!

7-7:30PM – trying to catch the end of the MORENA BACCARIN signing (1c05)!

9:00PM – Roddenberry is Back panel! (1A23) I worked at the Roddenberry booth at the 40th Anniversary Star Trek convention in Vegas and got to hang w/Eugene Roddenberry and his business manager, Trevor, who will both be on this panel. It will be nice to say hey and see what they’re up to!

See you all there! I’ll be in my Jayne hat. :)

My NYCC Schedule – FRIDAY

Care to stalk me at the Javitz Center today? :) Here’s where I’m likely to be at New York Comic Con today:

1:00PM – Becky Cloonan, Gabriel Ba, Fabio Moon signing at the Dark Horse booth! Gotta show my Demo/Daytrippers love!

2/2:15PM – either I’ll be at the Marvel panel (1A06) at 2PM, or the “Writing Action Packed and Character-Driven Stories” panel (1A15) at 2:15PM. Not sure yet.

LUNCH/WANDERING TIME! Including an interview I’m snagging for a possible ChinaShop post.

4:30PM – Image Writers (including Robert Kirkman!) panel (1A14)

Pursue autographs from MARJORIE LIU (Table 16) and JASON AARON (Marvel booth)

Wander until…

7:00PM - “Monsters” panel (1A06)

8:45PM – James Marsters Spotlight panel (1A08)

And then after all that, I’m off to the GEEK GIRLS NETWORK TWEET-UP!

Whew! I got tired just typing that. Thank goodness the Con doesn’t get started until 1PM. Hopefully, I’ll be meeting friends there, too!

So, if you want to find me, there’s the general plan for what I’ll be doing. I’d love to say hello!  :)

Happy New York Comic Con, everyone!

The past couple of days have been a feel-good time for me writing-wise!

First, I started writing for Tor.com, beginning with a review of Doctor Who: The End of Time. It was positively received, even if people disagreed with me as to how good the episode was.  Best bit? Paul Cornell called it “excellent stuff” when I sent him the link via his blog.

Then, I wrote a second Tor.com post.  This one was about Religion and Science Fiction.  Many more comments.  Much more debate.  But it felt good!  Because people were reading what I wrote and feeling strongly about something.  And I was interacting with them.  It felt really good!

I posted this second link to Cornell’s blog, because he said I should let him and his readers know whenever I post, and he responded to that, too.

Yesterday, io9 cited my Tor article in an article they wrote about the issue.  More debate and discussion started by yours truly!

And lest I forget to mention it, GeekWeek Online quoted a comment I made on another post on another blog regarding young girls and science.

Lastly, Cornell and I were having a bit of back and forth on his blog again today, and he seemed not only genuinely interested in my writing and my burgeoning career, but interested in encouraging any of his other blog readers who might be in my boat to do what I was doing, ie: letting him and each other know about their successes.  I can’t wait to meet this guy at NYCC.  He seems so completely…nice.

I’m starting to feel like I’m not just screaming into an empty room anymore.  There’s people in there.  And they’re listening.
