I’m not a director, I’m a writer, and yet tonight, Kathryn Bigelow, in becoming the FIRST WOMAN TO WIN BEST DIRECTOR AT THE OSCARS, became my hero. Not only has she become a powerhouse in a typically male-dominated field, but she directs the kind of movies I like to watch. I love a good cry over a “chick flick” just as much as the next girl, but a big part of the reason why Bigelow’s win means so much to me is that she directs movies that have nothing to do with martini glasses, or fashion, or talk of love and getting married. Point Break, Strange Days, and now The Hurt Locker…she shows that women like things that go ‘splodey, too.
But none of her films are brainless, nor do they put spectacle above character. She makes the kind of films I want to watch, and she inspires me to write something that might be worthy of her direction someday.
And also, LOOK AT HER! I want to look like that NOW, never mind when I’m her age!
Congratulations, Ms. Bigelow. You are an inspiration. I want to be you when I grow up.

First, I read this last week and I’m annoyed by it.

Apparently, women who like things that go ‘splodey are really pretending to be men and Bigelow hasn’t broken any glass ceilings because she didn’t direct Sex and the City 2 and get 9 Oscar nods.
Second, how the hell is that a picture of a 58 year old woman?!
Martha P. Nochimson can suck my fluorescent purple silicone strap-on cock. Seriously. Is she kidding?
As to your second question, Alex, I DON’T KNOW! Clearly there was some deal with the devil.
[Insert joke about her marriage to James Cameron here]
Oh, snap!
I have to say that that’s something that annoys me a bit, too. Bigelow makes history, and all a lot of people are talking about is that she used to be married to James Cameron.
Who, PS, I give a LOT of credit for seeming genuinely happy for her. They seem to have a good relationship, despite being exes, which is cool to see. Especially in Hollywood.
